Karen Huggett

Karen began her career in 1996 and has extensive experience working with adults, children, adolescents, families and couples. She worked predominantly for the Health Department of WA in the areas of adult psychiatry, child and adolescent outpatient clinics (CAMHS), Bentley Adolescent Unit and PMH (Department of Psychological Medicine and Endocrinology), before starting Direction Psychology in 2008.

Karen provides psychological services to clients of all ages experiencing emotional, behavioural and psychological or psychiatric disorders. She has a particular interest in working with children and teenagers, providing early intervention and prevention programs. Karen has also completed ADOS-2 and ADI-r training for the assessment and diagnosis of autism. Karen has also completed a post graduate course at University of Western Australia in the assessment and diagnosis of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Karen plays an integral part of the assessment team who deliver assessments in Attention-Deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) autism (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID).

Karen is an ambassador for mental health and actively promotes mental health awareness, undertakes community outreach programs, provides support to government and private allied health practices, and collaborates with like-minded organisations to address the ever increasing needs within our community.

Karen’s clinical qualifications, practice experience and post graduate professional development serves her well as the head of clinical governance across the business.
